Today marks the start of the fourteenth annual University Press Week, organized by the Association of University Presses (AUPresses). From November 10 to 14, we’re joining our colleagues across the globe in celebrating the university press publishing community and the vital work that scholarly publishers do to expand knowledge and serve the public good. At the University of Washington Press, we’re proud to be a part of this collective effort.
Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. This year’s theme, Team UP, highlights the many ways that university presses work together with authors, reviewers, booksellers, librarians, and campus and community partners to advance our shared missions.

“My very first book, Aiiieeeee! An Anthology of Asian American Writers, was published by a university press when no other publisher would publish it . . . . The ability to keep Asian American literature books in print is probably one of the most important aspects of my relationship with the University of Washington Press.”
Shawn Wong, author, UW professor, and Classics of Asian American Literature series editor

“At a university press, it’s about the quality of the work. It’s about the necessity of the topic. It’s about the depth of scholarship. . . . It’s something that’s going to stand the test of time and really contribute to the community.”
Lynda V. Mapes, journalist and author of The Trees Are Speaking: Dispatches from the Salmon Forests

“These are books for both academics and non-academic people like myself. Seattle’s lucky enough to have the University of Washington Press . . . . University presses need your support, but mostly they need your curiosity.”
Spencer Ruchti, bookseller and events manager at Third Place Books
